Safety Recall Update - April 11, 2016BestRide.com brings you the latest major National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) safety recall updates, automotive news and views, and listings for millions of cars, trucks, vans, and SUVs. If your vehicle doesn’t appear in a BestRide.com major safety recall update, but you want to find out for sure if your ride is under a safety recall, you can simply log onto the NHTSA website and enter your vehicle identification number (VIN).

VIN TagThe VIN is located on a small metal tab that is affixed to the driver’s side of the dash. The number can be easily observed when standing outside the car and looking through the lower left corner of the front windshield. The production date (Month/Year), vehicle wheelbase, and gross vehicle weight information may also be helpful. This information is typically found inside of the driver door jamb.

2013 VW PassatVehicles Affected: Certain 2012-2014 Volkswagen Passat vehicles equipped with TDI engines. Approximately 91,000 vehicles are expected for inclusion in this recall campaign.

Cause:

Due to improperly assembled wire seals in a connector for an underbody sensor, water may enter and corrode the electrical connectors of the sensor, causing an electrical short.

Concern:

An electrical short may cause the electrical connectors of the sensor to overheat, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

Correction:

2012 VW PassatVolkswagen will notify owners with specific instructions for contacting qualified dealers that will inspect the connector, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298.
